Water Security & Public Health Engineering Department conducted the phase-I training progaramme under Capacity Building and Skill Development programme of the government especially in Plumbing Trade. This training programme organized in collaboration with Advance Technical Training Centre, Bardang in batch –wise was started from the 18th June 2007. The training was successful with the attendance of Muster Roll Employees from the WS & PHE Department and unemployed youths from all the district of Sikkim.

  Description  
 

This training comprised of two weeks of training for each group. Further follow –up working after the training. They should be able to repair and lay down old and new domestic pipelines. At the end of the training the trainees were made able to demonstrated the following.

  
     
  • Safety in Plumbing  
  • Identification of plumbing tools  
  • Use of plumbing tools  
  • Identification of different pipe materials  
  • Identification of different types of joints  
  • Pipe and tank connections  
  • Toilet fitting (both Western and Indian style)  
  • Geyser and Water Heating system  
  • Basic Estimation  
  • Identification of Solar Heating Systems  
     
       
     
  Mode of Training  
 

The institute with the help of two external master trainers successfully conducted this training. The trainees were exposed to rigorous and intensive practical works. In additional, some real time work was also executed during the training . The first group of trainees consisted of Muster Roll plumbers with a lot of work experience and for them refresher on safety and estimation was also extended.

  Career/Job Groups  
  Most plumbers are employed by private firms/government to install and repair plumbing systems. Plumbers install domestic supply. Private construction equipment such as boilers, pumps, heating and cooling systems, natural gas ovens, water tanks and solar heating systems. The youths who have undergone through the training would definitely get employment opportunities in private/public sector under taking and may be self –employed in small firms or government department.  
     
  Accommodation/Stationary  
 

Stay during training was made available at the ATTC boy’s hostel. Trainees were provided with beds and mattresses . All facilities were extended to the Trainees. All required stationeries –like pencil, notepad ect, were also provided to all trainees.

  
     
  IN addition to this , IInd chase training on Advanced Plumbing/Sanitary installation trade is under progress at ATTC , Bardang East Sikkim. Total 80 numbers of candidates are attending the training in batch –wise from 18-02-2008.
